International Rally 17th - 19th July 2009
When I peeped through the curtains on the Friday morning I very nearly decided to go in the car - it was p***ing it down. After breakfast it had improved somewhat so I set of to meet Keith, Robin and a mysterious German rider at the Humber Bridge. Keith had met Bernd off the ferry that morning and he had ridden some 700km through Germany already on his 325cc Diesel powered Enfield.
As the weather was improving all the time we took the pretty way down through Lincolnshire (just one shower) and arrived at Woodland Waters to find John already ensconced in our luxury log cabin. Wandering up to the rally field we found lots of Enfields and their riders already there and camped.
Keith, Robin and myself decided (somewhat rashly) to do a fish and chip run into Sleaford later on and got wet through for out pains (fish and chips were good though) We then joined the rest of the gang in the bar. There was a band and a comedian laid on but not to everyone's taste so we put the world to rights over a few pints (more than a few in some cases - no names, no pack drill)
Saturday's weather was better and allowed the campers to dry out somewhat after gales and torrential rain overnight which left most people wet to some degree. Bacon sandwiches were available (excellent) and much tea was drunk as we wandered round the field looking at the various bikes.
Robin and I took a ride out later to Coningsby to see the Battle of Britain flight take off. Quite a thrill to see a Spitfire, Hurricane, Dakota and Lancaster start up and taxi at close quarters. The Dakota did a fly-by of the rally later in the day.
There was a slow riding competition that afternoon which attracted loads of entries and lots of entertainment for the spectators, as well as a chance to try the EFI Trials which Jim Allen had brought along. After that there was a BBQ organised with very good meat packs provided by a local butcher. After that it was a few more beers in the bar before turning in.
For some unexplained reason the lodge was awake and up  at 5.30 on the Sunday morning!!! so having loads to do at home I gave the rest of the rally a miss and set off back (with an excellent breakfast at Caenby Corner cafe)

Lincolnshire branch did a great job organising this years rally and it was good to see Hitchcocks there with a display of interesting machines. Most people seemed to enjoy themselves dispite the rain.
